What is HapKiDo

Hap-Ki-Do teaching system Kim Sou Bong

The psychological and educational aspects of the Kim Sou Bong teaching system make it possible to adapt the "original Hap-Ki-Do teaching" to the European mentality. This applies on the one hand to the "teaching" itself, in the sense of developing the personality, and on the other hand to the practical use of real, effective self-defense techniques. The main focus is always on health, meaning injury-free training. This is ensured by a specially developed communication and control system.

The basic training creates the conditions for real self-defense. The Hap-Ki-Do-ka is met mentally and physically exactly where their constitution currently is. They build an awareness that enables them to develop resilience, assertiveness and fighting spirit, and so to hold their own.

The teaching system aims at controlled and therefore injury-free real training, in which the person develops positively as a whole. Competitive athletic feats, acrobatics and show are deliberately left out. Likewise, the use of or training with so-called classical weapons is not a goal of the teaching system. The exception is practical exercises with a "stick" (Dan-Pong), which does not count as a weapon because it occurs and can be found in nature. Classical forms, so-called "form runs (Hyongs)", are not used in the Hap-Ki-Do teaching system Kim Sou Bong.
